Mike frames a new future for Supertrucks

The UK’s number one manufacturer of purpose-designed glass carrying vehicle bodies and racking systems has signalled its determination to go for growth by appointing its first Business Development Manager.

Mike Nicholson takes up his new position at Merseyside-based Supertrucks having spent the last 12 years working as a Group Transport Manager for furniture group Steinhoff UK, whose high-profile brands include Bensons for Beds and Harveys.

As the new ‘front man’ for Supertrucks, Mike will spend much of his time on the road, meeting established and potential customers, and pursuing new business opportunities. He is also working closely with senior colleagues Dave Hill and Andy Geoghegan, who between them have clocked-up 60 years’ service with Supertrucks, to ensure the smooth day-to-day operation of the company’s production facility in St Helens.

"I was ready for a change and am hugely excited about this opportunity,” declares Mike. "Glass is a fragile product so specialised vehicles, built to do the job, are needed to transport it securely.

"We have a fantastic production team at Supertrucks and our bodies and racks have long led the market in terms of their quality and fitness for purpose. But the company has sometimes fallen short when it comes to presenting itself – and that’s where I come in.

"I’m now looking forward to getting out and about, communicating and building relationships with operators, and thereby unlocking Supertrucks’ huge potential for growth.”

An ardent Liverpool FC fan and Formula One enthusiast – in his spare time he assists the McLaren team by driving its vans between European Grand Prix venues – Mike was head-hunted for his new role by Anthony Bevan, Managing Director of the West Midlands-based Bevan Group, which acquired Supertrucks last year.

Says Anthony: "We’ve practically doubled the size of the Supertrucks team since taking control and the company is now in much better shape. Mike is an experienced and motivated industry professional who has fully bought into our vision for the business – he’s now going to be instrumental in taking Supertrucks to the next level.”

Supertrucks invented the glass-carrying rack and named it the ‘frail’, reflecting the fragile characteristics of the material it was designed to carry. The company provides a wide range of internal and external glass transportation solutions for high-profile customers such as Float Glass Industries, HW Glass, IG Glass, Pilkington, Solglass Saint-Gobain, Theodor Schmid GmbH and Wolesley Group, as well as for smaller businesses and sole traders.
